about

(c) 2015, 2017 The Pluto Tapes/978Musik

recorded at Jenny G's house, Somerville, MA

about the inevitable end of things, and renting a basement apartment on the very outskirts of boston, right next to the harbor, after a break-up, and wishing the ocean would swallow you whole or somesuch self-pitying nonsense. but with a catchy sort of swampy feedback-y vibe.

in fact, this is a slightly different mix than the one on the record: this one is more Steve Albini and less Butch Vig, if you receive my meaning. louder guitars, less vox, weirder backing vox. heavier.

written at the barking crab, which is - seriously - the absolute least punk rock place in town. which was kinda perfect.

lyrics

UNDERWATER

Go!
C F C G
C F C G

C F
Welcome to my nightmare You been here for a while
C/E G
Losing every minute but we do it in style
C F
There’s a creepy crawly crawlin’ up my wall
C/E G
Watch it for a minute while I wait for your call

C G
AND I’LL KEEP WAITING FOREVER
Am (G) F
I’LL KEEP WAITING FOREVER
C G
TIL THE EARTH STOPS TURNING AND WE FALL TO THE SUN
Am (G) F
NO ONE WANTS TO SAY IT BUT WE’RE NOT HAVING FUN
C G
AND THE NIGHT’S NOT EVEN BEGUN
(walkdown from G to) C
LIVING UNDERWATER

(N.C., no music for a 4 count – drums kick in, then… GO! – repeat intro from 9th bar)

(2nd verse and chorus the same as the first )
Don’t you say I’m crazy man I already know
Known it since I stopped believing I was a ghost
Dig your heart a hole and throw it to the abyss
Dug myself a hole and traded you for a kiss

AND I’LL KEEP DIGGING FOREVER
I’LL KEEP DIGGING FOREVER
TIL I DIG A HOLE TO CHINA AND I LOOK TO THE SKY
MISSED IT BY A MILE AND NOW YOU’RE ASKING ME WHY
NOW DON’T IT BRING A TEAR TO YOUR EYE
LIVING UNDERWATER
No cut off here… drums keep going for a 4 count, then guitar comes in on C with a little octave riff for 1 bar

Middle semi-solo section… essentially based around a C chord, octave jumps and mild noise – 8 bars. Last half of this includes synth riff

F
Someday soon
G
Someday soon
Am
Where I stand
G
(where I stand)
Am
This will be
G
(this will be)
C G
The ocean floor forever more
Am F
Forever more Forever more
C G Am F C
Someday soon cannot come soon enough*/someday soon cannot come soon enough

*- second phrase starts under the second syllable of “enough”

G
Am F
I’LL KEEP DIGGING FOREVER
C G
TIL THE EARTH STOPS TURNING AND WE FALL TO THE SUN
Am F
NO ONE WANTS TO SAY IT BUT WE’RE NOT HAVING FUN
C G
AND THE NIGHT’S NOT EVEN BEGUN
(walkdown from G to) C
LIVING UNDERWATER
(C based noise)
(walkdown from G to) C
LIVING UNDERWATER
(C based noise)
(walkdown from G to) C
LIVING UNDERWATER
(C based noise until outro – should feel like drums are starting and stopping as the song drowns in feedback)
